Kotak Neo Sees Long-Term Value in Large-Cap Equities

Kotak Neo’s research notes that high-quality large-cap stocks may offer long-term value as the Nifty 50 tests the 22,000 support level. While geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran create short-term volatility, analysts point to FY28 earnings projections, suggesting many Nifty 50 companies currently trade at a significant discount to their intrinsic value.

Kotak Neo’s latest equity research suggests that the current market environment, characterized by volatility, may present a structural opportunity for investors focused on long-term wealth creation. As the Nifty 50 tests the 22,000 mark, analysts view this as a potential floor for the benchmark index. The core of this outlook relies on valuations projected for fiscal year 2028, with the brokerage highlighting that approximately 80 percent of Nifty 50 companies are trading at a 20 percent discount to their calculated intrinsic value.

Navigating Geopolitical Uncertainty

While valuation metrics suggest potential upside, the report cautions that immediate market direction remains sensitive to global developments. Escalating tensions between the United States and Iran have emerged as a primary driver of daily price swings, often overshadowing local economic fundamentals. This geopolitical friction contributes to a disconnect between stock prices and company performance. For investors, the challenge remains filtering this short-term noise to focus on entities with established business models and clear long-term growth objectives rather than reacting to headlines.

Sector Focus and Strategic Outlook

Within the broader market, specific sectors are attracting attention despite the volatility. The brokerage highlights pockets of strength in the financial services sector, specifically mentioning non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and capital market intermediaries. Additionally, the pharmaceutical segment—particularly firms focused on Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs), which provide drug development and manufacturing services to other companies—is viewed as potentially undervalued. The travel and tourism space, alongside select automotive manufacturers, also figures into the brokerage's current outlook.

Beyond immediate sector trends, the broader structural health of the Indian market remains a focus. Large-scale public offerings, such as the potential entry of major entities like Jio Platforms into the public market, are seen as markers of India's growing global economic footprint. While such listings may not provide an immediate lift to index performance, they help build long-term visibility for the Indian market among global investors.

For investors monitoring these developments, the key is separating fundamental value from macro-driven volatility. While the brokerage maintains a positive view on long-term prospects, future performance will likely depend on the company's ability to maintain earnings growth through FY28 and the stabilization of geopolitical conditions that currently weigh on global sentiment.
