Brokerage firm Kotak Neo has issued a positive outlook on JSW Steel and Groww's parent company, Billionbrains Garage Ventures. The update covers JSW Steel's plan to reach 53.3 MTPA capacity and Groww's strong profit growth of 54% despite regulatory changes affecting the brokerage industry.
Kotak Neo has provided a detailed assessment of JSW Steel and Billionbrains Garage Ventures, the parent firm behind the investment platform Groww. The analysis focuses on JSW Steel's long-term production strategy and the financial performance of the Groww platform in a shifting regulatory environment.
JSW Steel’s Capacity Expansion
JSW Steel, a prominent member of the JSW Group, is working on a significant expansion of its Indian steelmaking operations. The company aims to increase its annual capacity from the current 36.4 million tonnes to 53.3 million tonnes over the next four years. This strategy involves a mix of new greenfield projects and upgrades to existing sites, including facilities in Vijayanagar and Odisha.
Financial management is a key aspect of this plan. The company reported a reduction in net debt to ₹46,200 crore in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, down from ₹53,900 crore at the end of the previous year. While this deleveraging improves the balance sheet, investors should remain aware of potential pressures. Specifically, rising costs of coking coal and seasonal shifts in the rebar market may cause the profit margin to come under pressure in the second quarter.
Financial Performance at Groww
Billionbrains Garage Ventures, which operates the Groww digital investment platform, has shown significant growth in its latest financial disclosures. The company reported a 54% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit, reaching ₹725.60 crore, while operating revenue grew by 47% to ₹1,501.53 crore.
This financial momentum comes despite regulatory updates that led to a 12.2 percentage point decline in income from equity derivatives. To address this, the company has expanded into margin trading and commodity derivatives to stabilize its revenue streams. Currently, the platform supports 2.4 crore active users and holds assets under management worth ₹3.9 lakh crore. The company is now pivoting toward broader wealth management services through its 'W' platform and a new asset management arm.
The primary monitorable for investors going forward will be the execution of JSW Steel’s infrastructure projects and whether the company can maintain its balance sheet health during this expansion. For Groww, the key area to watch will be its ability to continue user growth and profit stability as it shifts its product focus away from traditional brokerage toward diversified wealth management services, especially in the face of ongoing regulatory oversight.
