Kotak Neo Forecasts 18% Nifty Earnings Growth for FY27

Kotak Neo expects Nifty 50 company earnings to grow by 18% in FY27, following a strong performance in the first quarter. While persistent foreign institutional selling and geopolitical tensions create short-term volatility, the brokerage notes that improved valuations offer a more reasonable entry point. The firm recommends a strategy of staggered investment to navigate current market uncertainties.

Kotak Neo has projected an 18% growth in earnings for Nifty 50 companies during the 2026-27 financial year. This positive outlook is backed by data from the first quarter of FY27, which marked the highest year-on-year earnings growth for the index in 11 quarters. The brokerage further anticipates an additional 13% earnings expansion in FY28, suggesting a steady long-term trajectory for Indian corporate profitability.

The market’s valuation has undergone a correction recently, with the Nifty 50 currently trading at approximately 18.7 times its estimated FY27 earnings. This valuation provides a more balanced entry point for long-term investors compared to the higher premiums seen earlier in the market cycle. By paying less for each rupee of expected earnings, investors may find current levels more justifiable given the projected growth numbers.

Despite the optimistic earnings forecast, the report highlights several factors that continue to pressure the stock market. Persistent selling by foreign institutional investors, uncertainty regarding crude oil prices due to Middle East tensions, and rising US bond yields have created a volatile environment. These headwinds have tested market stability throughout Samvat 2082.

Global concerns also extend to technology stocks, where the market is questioning whether the heavy spending on artificial intelligence projects will lead to actual profit growth for global firms. This uncertainty contributes to volatility in technology-weighted indices, which can impact broader market sentiment.

Given these risks, the brokerage advises against putting all capital into the market at once. Instead, it suggests a strategy of staggered accumulation, which involves investing fixed amounts regularly rather than attempting to time the market. This approach aims to help investors navigate near-term fluctuations while still participating in India's long-term economic growth. The key for investors will be focusing on companies that maintain strong balance sheets and are better equipped to withstand periods of macroeconomic pressure.
