Juniper Green Energy Rises 3% After JM Financial Buy Call

Juniper Green Energy shares climbed 3.24% on Friday following a positive coverage initiation by JM Financial. The brokerage expects strong growth based on an 8.4GW renewable energy portfolio. Investors should note that these targets depend on the company's ability to execute large projects on time, manage debt, and navigate grid availability challenges.

Juniper Green Energy shares traded higher on Friday, rising 3.24% to Rs 266.05. This move followed a report by JM Financial Institutional Securities, which started coverage on the company with a 'Buy' rating. The brokerage set a price target of Rs 371, projecting a potential upside of about 39% from current levels.

The report highlights the company's growth plan, anchored by its 8.4GW renewable energy portfolio. Currently, 2GW of this capacity is operational. The company works across solar, wind, and hybrid projects, including newer areas like Battery Energy Storage Systems and Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy. This focus on diverse energy solutions is intended to help the company participate in a broader range of power supply contracts.

JM Financial expects rapid financial scaling for the company. The brokerage has forecast a compounded annual growth rate of 101% in revenue and 208% in profit after tax between fiscal year 2026 and 2029. While these figures suggest high growth potential, investors should remember that such projections are estimates based on expected performance. The actual results will depend heavily on the company's success in building and connecting its planned capacity to the power grid within the projected timelines.

The renewable energy sector in India offers long-term opportunity, with the government aiming for 500GW of renewable capacity by 2030 and power demand growing steadily. However, the brokerage also highlighted real risks that investors should monitor. These include potential regulatory changes, the risk of grid curtailment, where produced power cannot be successfully sent to the grid, and the financial burden of developing large-scale infrastructure projects. As the company moves from the development stage to full-scale operations, managing debt and securing financing will be critical factors.

The valuation used by the brokerage is based on an expected run-rate EBITDA multiple for fiscal year 2028. Because the business is capital-intensive, investors may want to track the company's execution timeline, project commissioning progress, and debt management in the coming quarters to see if the business performance stays on track with these optimistic forecasts.
