JK Cement Target Price Cut to Rs 6,078 by Anand Rathi

Brokerage firm Anand Rathi has lowered its 12-month target price for JK Cement to Rs 6,078 from Rs 6,818, citing rising fuel costs and high debt levels. While the company continues to expand capacity and grow its paint business, investors should watch how these cost pressures impact profit margins in the coming quarters.

Brokerage firm Anand Rathi has lowered its price target for JK Cement to Rs 6,078 from the previous Rs 6,818. While the research note maintains a buy rating, it highlights that the company is facing increased cost pressure, specifically from rising fuel prices. Investors are now looking at how the company manages its debt as it continues to invest heavily in expanding its production capacity.

JK Cement recently reported a strong second quarter for fiscal year 2027, driven by higher volume growth and an improved market share in Central India. The company is in the middle of a major expansion phase, aiming to reach a grey cement production capacity of 40 million tonnes by fiscal year 2028 and 50 million tonnes by fiscal year 2030. These investments are meant to help the company stay ahead of industry growth, but they have also led to higher debt levels on the balance sheet.

Impact of Fuel Costs and Debt

A primary reason for the target price adjustment is the rise in fuel expenses. Management expects fuel costs to increase by Rs 70 to Rs 80 per tonne in both the third and fourth quarters of the current fiscal year. While the company plans to cover these extra costs through price hikes, the ability to pass on these increases to consumers remains a key uncertainty. Analysts at Anand Rathi anticipate a peak net debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 2.25x to 2.35x by the end of fiscal year 2027. This level of debt pressure makes the company’s ability to manage its cash flow a critical area for investors to monitor as the expansion proceeds.

Focus on New Business Lines

Apart from its core cement business, the company is focusing on its ancillary products, such as wall putty, paints, and ready-mix concrete. A major goal for the firm is to make its paints business EBITDA-positive by fiscal year 2027. If successful, this would mark a significant step in the company’s strategy to reduce its reliance on the cyclical cement industry. Additionally, the company is aiming to source 75% of its energy needs from renewable sources by fiscal year 2030 to lower long-term power costs.

For investors, the key monitorables over the next few quarters will be the impact of fuel price fluctuations on profit margins and the company's progress in balancing debt with its ambitious growth plans. The market will also track how effectively the company can use price hikes to maintain its margins without losing market share to competitors in a highly active cement sector.
