Hindustan Unilever Gets Accumulate Rating From Prabhudas Lilladher

Prabhudas Lilladher has issued an 'Accumulate' rating on Hindustan Unilever with a price target of ₹2,320. The brokerage notes the company’s shift to the 'Winning in New India' strategy, which prioritizes premium products and volume-led growth, even as competitive pressure remains a challenge.

Prabhudas Lilladher has assigned an 'Accumulate' rating to Hindustan Unilever, setting a price target of ₹2,320. This assessment follows the company's recent strategic updates shared during its Capital Markets Day, which outlined a roadmap for future expansion and operational changes.

The company is transitioning its operational focus from its previous WIMI model toward a new framework called 'Winning in New India' (WINI). This strategy is designed to drive growth by prioritizing premiumization, increasing product usage, and expanding into high-growth market categories. Management aims to achieve this through a balanced approach where 40% of future growth is expected from increased consumption and premium offerings, 40% from user base expansion, and 20% from new product innovations.

To support these long-term goals, Hindustan Unilever has adjusted its medium-term consolidated EBITDA margin guidance to a range of 22% to 24%. This broader range accounts for increased capital spending, which is now targeted at 3% of turnover over the next five years. The company is funding these initiatives through internal cost savings and by improving the efficiency of its advertising and media spending.

In addition to the operational shift, the company is progressing with the demerger of its ice cream business, Kwality Wall's, on a 1:1 share ratio. This move is part of a broader effort to streamline its portfolio and sharpen the focus on core home and personal care segments.

Despite the positive outlook on strategy, the company faces external hurdles. Analysts highlight that elevated competitive intensity, particularly in the home care and toilet soap categories, remains a significant factor. Furthermore, persistent inflation in palm oil and crude derivatives could impact profitability margins, potentially testing the lower end of the company's guided EBITDA range. Demand recovery in rural areas also remains an area for investors to monitor as the company attempts to execute its volume-led growth targets.

Investors will be looking for further clarity in the coming days as Hindustan Unilever hosts a series of physical investor engagements from September 9 to September 11, 2026. These meetings are expected to provide more insight into the execution of the WINI framework and the company's response to the current competitive environment.
