HDFC Securities has recommended bull call spread strategies for Hero MotoCorp and Punjab National Bank (PNB) ahead of the November 23 expiry. These suggestions are based on positive technical indicators and futures market activity for both stocks. While these strategies allow for defined risk management, they also limit the total profit potential, and investors should be aware of the inherent risks in options trading.
Analysts at HDFC Securities have identified potential momentum in Hero MotoCorp and Punjab National Bank (PNB), suggesting "bull call spread" strategies for the upcoming November 23 market expiry. A bull call spread is an options trading strategy that involves buying one call option while simultaneously selling another at a higher price. This approach is often used to reduce the upfront cost of the trade, though it also places a cap on the maximum profit the investor can make.
Hero MotoCorp Technical and Financial View
According to the analysis, Hero MotoCorp recently moved above its 5-day and 11-day exponential moving averages, which are often used by traders to gauge short-term price momentum. The stock also cleared a downward-sloping trendline on daily charts, suggesting to analysts that selling pressure may be easing. This technical setup is supported by the company’s recent financial results. Hero MotoCorp reported a net profit of ₹1,861 crore for the second quarter of FY27, which represents a 40.85% increase compared to the same period last year.
The proposed strategy involves buying a call option with a strike price of ₹5,600 and selling a call option at ₹5,700. Based on the analysis, this setup offers a maximum profit potential of ₹10,350 while capping the maximum risk at ₹4,650. The breakeven point for this position is estimated at ₹5,631.
PNB Positioning and Outlook
For Punjab National Bank, the brokerage highlights consistent "long build-up" in the futures segment, meaning traders are increasingly betting on higher prices. On weekly charts, the stock is displaying a higher-top, higher-bottom pattern, a technical sign often associated with an ongoing uptrend. The bank has also shown improvement in its asset quality metrics, with reported reductions in gross and net non-performing asset (GNPA and NNPA) ratios in recent quarters.
The suggested strategy for PNB involves buying a call option at the ₹127 strike price and selling one at ₹130. This position carries a maximum profit potential of ₹14,400, with the maximum loss capped at ₹9,600. The breakeven point for this trade is calculated at ₹128.20.
Investor Considerations and Risks
Investors should approach these strategies with an understanding of their risks. While bull call spreads can help manage losses, they do not offer unlimited profit potential because of the sold call option. Furthermore, technical indicators are based on past price behavior and do not guarantee future movement. Broader market volatility, unexpected economic data, or changes in sector-specific regulations can quickly invalidate these technical setups. The brokerage has suggested that investors consider exiting these positions if the return on investment exceeds 20%.
