HDFC Securities has updated price targets for firms including Tech Mahindra, Wipro, and Persistent Systems following September-quarter results. The brokerage highlighted improving margins as a key driver for its positive view, although it continues to monitor broader demand headwinds in the IT sector and banking asset quality.
Following the September-quarter earnings season, HDFC Securities has adjusted its financial outlook for six companies: Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Persistent Systems, Indian Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, and Orient Electric. The brokerage cited varying levels of operational success and business growth as the primary reasons for these revised price targets.
Tech Mahindra stood out in the report, with the brokerage raising its target price to ₹1,800 from the previous ₹1,660. The company’s financial performance for the quarter showed resilience, with revenue growing 2.4% on a sequential basis and 7.2% compared to the same period last year. A notable metric highlighted in the analysis is the operating margin of 14.8%, which improved by 34 basis points. This marks the twelfth consecutive quarter of margin expansion for the company, bringing it closer to its internal goal of reaching 15% margins by the 2027 financial year.
The improvement in profit margins is a significant factor for investors in the current IT sector environment. Many technology firms are facing challenges with revenue growth due to a slowdown in discretionary spending by global clients. By focusing on cost discipline and operational efficiency, companies like Tech Mahindra are attempting to protect their profitability even when revenue growth remains moderate.
While the outlook for these specific companies has been revised positively, the brokerage also provided a balanced view by pointing to broader risks. In the IT services space, demand remains uncertain as clients continue to be cautious with their budgets. In the banking sector, while operational momentum has been steady, the brokerage continues to monitor potential challenges related to asset quality. This suggests that while individual company performance is improving, the overall sector environment is still subject to macroeconomic pressure.
For investors, the key monitorable remains how these companies manage to sustain these margin improvements while navigating a volatile demand environment. The ability to win new deals while keeping costs in check will likely determine whether the companies can maintain their current growth trajectory in the coming quarters.
