Prabhudas Lilladher has maintained a 'Hold' rating on Gujarat Fluorochemicals with a target price of ₹4,548. The company reported a 45% revenue jump in Q2 FY27, driven by strong fluorochemical demand. However, analysts are balancing this growth against the company’s high valuation and ongoing losses in its nascent battery chemicals segment.
Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has reaffirmed its 'Hold' rating on Gujarat Fluorochemicals (GFL), assigning a target price of ₹4,548. This assessment comes as the company balances strong operational performance in its core business with the challenges of scaling its new battery chemicals division.
Operational Growth and Financials
In the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, Gujarat Fluorochemicals reported a consolidated revenue of ₹1,760 crore, marking a 45% increase compared to the same period last year. The primary driver for this growth was the company's fluorochemicals segment, which saw a 135% year-on-year surge, largely fueled by rising demand for R32 refrigerants and a stable performance across its broader refrigerant portfolio.
While the core fluorochemicals business is performing well, the company's bulk chemicals segment has faced pressure, with prices for products like caustic soda softening. This downturn in the bulk segment has partially offset the gains seen in higher-value categories, influencing the overall margin profile.
The Battery Chemicals Challenge
A critical area of focus for the company is its battery chemicals subsidiary, GFCL EV Products. While this segment is central to the company’s long-term growth strategy, it currently remains in a nascent, loss-making phase. In the recent quarter, the battery chemicals division reported an EBITDA loss of ₹32 crore. Despite this, the company continues to invest in the business, with the board recently approving an additional capital outlay of up to ₹600 crore to scale operations.
Analysts note that while the potential for this segment—specifically through products like LiPF6—is significant, revenue contribution remains low. The path to profitability for this unit remains a key area of execution risk that investors are monitoring closely.
Valuation and Market Perspective
Prabhudas Lilladher's decision to maintain a 'Hold' stance is tied to the stock's current valuation. The shares are trading at high earnings multiples, which leads some analysts to suggest that much of the near-term growth potential may already be priced in. At these valuation levels, the brokerage remains cautious, emphasizing that future stock performance will depend on the company's ability to maintain its growth trajectory in the core fluorochemicals business while successfully turning around its battery chemicals segment.
Investors tracking the company may want to watch for the commissioning of the new R134a capacity, which is expected later in the fiscal year, as well as updates on the customer qualification stages for battery materials. The pace at which the battery chemicals unit moves toward commercial viability and positive cash flow will be a significant indicator of the company's long-term success.
