Groww Market Share Hits 28.9% in July 2026, Beats Peers

Groww, the platform operated by Billionbrains Garage Ventures, captured a 28.9% market share of active NSE clients in July 2026. While the firm added over 70,000 active users, major competitors like Zerodha saw their market share decline. This growth occurs despite a wider industry trend where the total count of active stock market investors dropped for the month.

Billionbrains Garage Ventures Ltd, the parent company of the Groww investment platform, has further strengthened its presence in the Indian brokerage industry. In July 2026, the company expanded its market share of active National Stock Exchange (NSE) clients by 16 basis points, bringing its total share to 28.9 percent. This growth was driven by the addition of over 70,000 active clients during the month, pushing its total active user base to 13.12 million.

While Groww increased its footprint, its primary competitors faced a different scenario. Zerodha saw its market share decline by 8 basis points to 14.9 percent, with reports indicating a reduction of approximately 38,725 active accounts. Meanwhile, Angel One maintained its market position with a steady 14.6 percent share. The divergence in these numbers highlights the ongoing battle for retail investor loyalty in the highly competitive digital broking space.

It is important for investors to view these individual company results alongside broader industry trends. In July, while the total number of demat accounts across the industry rose by 1.25 percent to reach 234.4 million, the number of active NSE clients actually fell by 1.8 percent. This creates a nuance in the data: while new accounts continue to be opened, a smaller percentage of existing account holders are actively trading on a monthly basis.

The brokerage industry currently faces several structural risks that could impact future performance. Many digital brokers rely heavily on revenue from Futures and Options (F&O) trading. With regulatory bodies frequently reviewing derivative trading norms to protect retail investors, any tightening of rules could impact transaction volumes and revenue. Additionally, the industry requires consistent investment in marketing and technology to keep users engaged. These costs, combined with the need to acquire new customers in a saturated market, can place pressure on profit margins.

Investors may watch how these companies manage user engagement in the coming months. The key trend to track will be whether the industry can stabilize its active client count if market volatility persists. As competition intensifies, the ability of these platforms to retain active traders rather than just adding new demat accounts will remain a critical monitorable for the sector.
