Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher maintained a 'Buy' rating on Greenpanel Industries but lowered its price target to Rs 239, citing recent quarterly margin pressure. While revenue grew, higher raw material costs and sluggish demand impacted profitability. Investors are now watching for management’s projected business recovery in the third quarter of the 2027 fiscal year.
Prabhudas Lilladher recently adjusted its outlook on Greenpanel Industries, maintaining a 'Buy' rating while lowering the price target to Rs 239 from the previous Rs 271. This recalibration follows the company’s financial performance in the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, where profitability faced significant headwinds despite top-line growth.
Quarterly Performance and Margin Pressure
For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, Greenpanel reported consolidated revenue of Rs 407.3 crore, representing a 4.6% increase compared to the same period last year. However, the company struggled to maintain profit margins. The operating profit (EBITDA) for the quarter stood at Rs 30.4 crore, with margins contracting to 7.5%, down from 10.2% in the year-ago quarter. This margin compression was primarily driven by a rise in raw material costs and the need to offer price incentives to defend market share in a competitive landscape.
Operational volume also faced challenges during the period. The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) segment, a key part of the business, saw a volume decline of 39% in the second quarter. Additionally, export activity remained muted, largely due to ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East. These factors created a difficult environment for volume growth, despite the company’s efforts to maintain its market presence.
Debt Management and Organizational Changes
On the balance sheet front, the company has shown a disciplined approach to managing its liabilities. Greenpanel reported that its net debt decreased to Rs 133 crore as of September 30, 2026, compared to Rs 156 crore at the end of March 2026. This reduction in debt is a positive indicator for financial health, showing that the company is prioritizing cash flow and leverage control even during a period of operational stress.
Beyond the financial results, the company announced a change in its senior management team. Chief Sales Officer Prakash Rameshbhai Tripathi has submitted his resignation, effective November 5, 2026. Changes in key leadership roles are often a point of interest for investors as they monitor the company’s internal stability and execution capabilities.
Outlook and Monitorables
Looking ahead, the management remains optimistic about a recovery starting in the third quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company is aiming for mid-teen growth in MDF (medium-density fiberboard) volumes for the full fiscal year. For investors, the most important factors to track will be the stabilization of raw material costs and the success of the company’s efforts to recover sales volumes in the OEM and export segments. Whether the company can successfully navigate these inflationary and demand-related pressures will determine its ability to restore previous margin levels in the coming quarters.
