Granules India Stock Dips; Emkay Global Maintains Buy With Rs 950 Target

Brokerage firm Emkay Global has retained its 'Buy' rating on Granules India with a price target of Rs 950. While the company reported strong revenue and profit growth for the second quarter, its shares fell by 2.27% due to margin pressure from higher input costs. Investors are closely monitoring the resolution of recent USFDA inspection findings at the company's Gagillapur facility.

Emkay Global has maintained its positive outlook on Granules India, keeping a 'Buy' rating and setting a target price of Rs 950 for the stock. This decision comes despite a recent 2.27% dip in the company's share price, which followed the release of its financial results for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year.

The company reported a strong performance in terms of growth, with revenue reaching Rs 15,600 million, a 20% increase compared to the same period last year. Profitability also showed solid improvement, with net profit rising by 39% to Rs 1,818 million. However, the market reaction appears to have been tempered by concerns over profit margins. Granules India reported a 134 basis point decline in gross margins, which narrowed to 64.4%.

Management and analysts have attributed this margin pressure to rising input and logistics costs. Specifically, geopolitical tensions in West Asia have impacted supply chain expenses, creating a challenging environment for operational costs. While the topline performance has remained strong for the eighth consecutive quarter, the market is signaling that it is paying close attention to whether the company can stabilize these costs in the coming months.

A significant area of focus for shareholders is the recent regulatory inspection at the company's Gagillapur facility. The US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) conducted an inspection between October 19 and October 30, 2026, which resulted in 11 observations recorded in a Form 483. It is important to note that these observations did not involve serious issues such as data integrity or cross-contamination. The company has clarified that these findings are not currently impacting the manufacturing or distribution operations at the plant, and management is working to address the regulator's concerns.

Despite these regulatory and cost challenges, the company’s balance sheet remains a key point of stability. Granules India has shifted to a net cash position of Rs 8,280 million, a move supported by the receipt of proceeds from balance warrants. This financial cushion provides the company with the flexibility to fund its ongoing expansion projects, including the work at the Genome Valley facility, without relying heavily on external debt.

Moving forward, investors will likely track the company's ability to normalize its operating expenses and maintain its growth trajectory in the US and European markets. The resolution of the regulatory observations at the Gagillapur plant will be a key event to monitor, as the market looks for signs that these issues are being addressed without disrupting long-term capacity plans. The success of the Senn Chemicals contract development and manufacturing segment also remains a central part of the company's roadmap for the year.
