Gland Pharma Jumps 12% to 52-Week High on Brokerage Upgrades

Gland Pharma shares hit a 52-week high of Rs 2,988.40 today following strong Q1 FY27 results and a 'BUY' rating from Motilal Oswal with a Rs 3,080 target. The company reported a 47% year-on-year profit surge, driven by robust performance in US and European markets. Investors are tracking its growing CDMO business, which now contributes half of total revenue.

Gland Pharma Limited shares surged nearly 12% on Tuesday, reaching a 52-week high of Rs 2,988.40. The sharp move follows a positive assessment from brokerage firm Motilal Oswal, which initiated coverage with a 'BUY' rating and a target price of Rs 3,080. Market sentiment was further bolstered by a separate upgrade from Jefferies, which also issued a 'BUY' rating with an even higher target price of Rs 3,350.

Strong Q1 FY27 Results

The positive market reaction comes after the company posted robust financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. Gland Pharma reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 317 crore, marking a 47% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter rose by 20% to Rs 18,003 million. This performance was largely supported by a 32% year-on-year growth in the United States market, alongside successful new product launches. The company effectively surpassed market expectations for revenue, EBITDA, and profit after tax.

CDMO Business and Strategic Focus

A major highlight in the company's recent performance is the expansion of its Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) business. This segment has grown to account for 50% of Gland Pharma's total revenue. Analysts noted that the company is shifting its strategic focus toward high-value areas, including complex injectables, peptides, and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) related products. This move away from purely conventional sterile manufacturing is seen as a key factor in the projected earnings growth for the upcoming fiscal years.

Monitorables and Risks

While the financial results and brokerage outlook are positive, investors are also tracking several operational risks. The company’s performance in certain core and Rest of World (ROW) markets remained subdued during the quarter, which could act as a constraint if it persists. Additionally, the profitability of Cenexi—a recent acquisition—remains a key monitorable, as the entity works to reach target margins. Future growth also relies heavily on the company's ability to secure timely regulatory approvals for new complex products, such as those related to its RTU (ready-to-use) bag lines. Investors will likely continue to track the execution of these growth plans and the stability of margins against these specific challenges in the coming quarters.
