GE Vernova T&D India Shares Rise 8% After L1 Bid Win

GE Vernova T&D India shares jumped 8% on Tuesday after the company emerged as the lowest bidder for a major Power Grid Corporation project. The 6,000 MW HVDC terminal contract strengthens the company's order backlog and growth prospects. Investors are now tracking the formal contract signing and project execution timelines.

GE Vernova T&D India shares rallied 8% in early trade on Tuesday, reflecting strong market confidence following the company’s announcement of an important project win. The company has emerged as the lowest bidder, known as the L1 bidder, for a large High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) terminal station project.

The project was tendered by the Power Grid Corporation of India. It involves the construction of two 3,000 MW converter terminal stations, each with a capacity of ±800 kV. This infrastructure will be used to evacuate renewable energy from Barmer II in Rajasthan to South Kalamb in Maharashtra. The win is viewed as a significant development because HVDC projects are technologically advanced and require high technical expertise, placing the company in a strong position within the power transmission sector.

From a financial perspective, this development comes at a time when the company has demonstrated solid operational performance. In the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, the company reported a net profit of ₹363 crore, which was a 24.65% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenue also grew by 38.05% to ₹1,836 crore. As of June 30, 2026, the company’s order backlog stood at ₹20,930 crore, which provides visibility for future revenue.

Investors should note that while being the L1 bidder is a positive step, it does not guarantee an immediate contract. The status indicates that the company has submitted the lowest price, but the formal contract signing and final approvals from the client are still pending. Like many infrastructure projects of this size, these HVDC installations are complex. Their successful execution depends on strict timelines and management of project costs. If there are delays or technical hurdles, it could impact profit margins or the overall project timeline.

Furthermore, the company maintains a strong balance sheet with a net cash position of approximately ₹29.3 billion as of the end of the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. This liquidity provides the company with the flexibility to manage large projects, though the stock's recent performance and high valuation reflect high investor expectations for future growth.

Moving forward, the primary update that investors will likely monitor is the formalization of this contract and any subsequent announcements regarding the project timeline or scope. Tracking how the company manages its existing order backlog while preparing for this new, large-scale mandate will also be important to assess sustained operational efficiency.
