Fractal Analytics Brokerage View: Key Growth And Margin Trends

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has updated its outlook on Fractal Analytics following a quarter of muted revenue and margin pressure. While the TMT vertical faced a contraction, the firm expects recovery in the second half of the year driven by other business segments and better operational efficiency. Investors are monitoring the company's ability to normalize margins after recent wage-related costs.

Detailed Coverage

Prabhudas Lilladher has released a revised assessment for Fractal Analytics, projecting a target price of INR 1,010 for the stock. This update follows a first-quarter performance where the company faced challenges, including a minor 0.4% quarter-on-quarter decline in revenue on a constant currency basis. Profit margins also saw a reduction of 460 basis points compared to the previous quarter.

Segment Performance and TMT Weakness

The primary factor behind the recent revenue shortfall was a 14% sequential decline in the Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT) vertical. This specific segment of the business has been a source of pressure, impacting overall growth numbers. However, when excluding the TMT segment, the company demonstrated a different trend. Other business areas reported a 3.5% sequential growth and a notable 23.7% year-on-year increase in USD terms. Additionally, the company's Alpha segment, which accounts for roughly 3% of total revenue, showed a 59% year-on-year rise in Annual Recurring Revenue, suggesting strong demand in specific high-value areas.

Factors Influencing Profit Margins

The drop in EBITDA margins was driven by specific operational costs rather than broad systemic failure. The company incurred a one-month wage hike that impacted margins by 75 basis points, while additional investments in talent contributed another 160 basis points to the decline. Because of these one-time or planned expenses, the firm anticipates that some residual impacts will persist into the second quarter.

Looking ahead, the outlook for margin recovery is tied to the second half of the fiscal year. Analysts expect that a shift in the business mix and improved operational leverage—where the company earns more as it processes more work with existing resources—will support a rebound. The brokerage has maintained its EBITDA margin estimates for fiscal years 2027 and 2028 at 17.0% and 18.0%, respectively. Revenue growth estimates for the same period have been adjusted slightly to 11.3% and 16.6% to reflect the challenges encountered in the first quarter.

Investors may monitor the progress of the TMT vertical in the coming quarters to see if the segment stabilizes as expected. The pace of execution in the second half of the year, particularly how the company manages its talent costs and realizes the potential of its recurring revenue segments, will remain a key factor for the company's financial health.
