Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Gets Buy Rating From Geojit, Target Rs 251

Geojit Financial Services has upgraded Crompton Greaves to 'Buy' with a Rs 251 target, citing strong Q2 FY27 results. The company reported an 18.2% revenue jump and a 64.9% rise in profit, driven by the performance of its consumer durables and export segments. Investors are watching the impact of cost-saving initiatives against competitive market pressures.

Geojit Financial Services has issued a 'Buy' rating for Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, setting a target price of Rs 251. This positive outlook follows the company's strong performance in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027, where it saw significant improvements in both revenue and profitability.

During the quarter, the company recorded a consolidated revenue of Rs 2,263.29 crore, which is an 18.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Profit after tax grew at a faster pace, climbing 64.9% to Rs 124.39 crore. This performance was largely supported by the Electrical Consumer Durables (ECD) segment, which grew 19.4% to Rs 1,634 crore. The company saw strong demand for its energy-efficient BLDC fans and water heaters, while its export business also hit record-high levels during the period.

The company’s focus on internal efficiency is a key factor behind these numbers. Its 'Unnati' cost-saving program, combined with strategic pricing, helped the business expand its operating margins by 40 basis points to 9%. This means the company is successfully keeping a slightly larger share of its revenue as operating profit, which is a positive sign for investors monitoring operational discipline.

Risks and Market Context

While the recent growth is encouraging, investors should balance this with the risks inherent in the consumer durables sector. The industry is highly competitive, and heavy competition can often limit a company’s ability to gain or hold onto market share. Furthermore, commodity price fluctuations remain a persistent concern. If the costs of raw materials rise significantly, the company may struggle to pass these costs on to customers, which could put pressure on profit margins.

Investors should also consider the company's track record with inorganic growth. In the past, the integration of acquisitions such as Butterfly Gandhimathi has faced execution challenges, leading to financial adjustments. Managing such integrations successfully is crucial to ensure that growth remains profitable and does not weigh down the balance sheet.

The brokerage's target price of Rs 251 is based on a valuation multiple of 23 times the company’s estimated earnings per share for the fiscal year 2028. Moving forward, the key monitorables for shareholders will be the sustainability of these margins, the company's success in navigating competitive pricing, and its ability to maintain growth in both its core durables business and export markets.
