Cipla Targets US Growth With New Product Focus

ICICI Securities has maintained a positive outlook on Cipla as the company shifts its focus toward respiratory and peptide drug launches in the US. The company aims for a quarterly US revenue run-rate of USD 250 million by FY27. Investors are monitoring this transition as it attempts to move past the peak revenue contribution from older blockbuster generic drugs.

ICICI Securities recently reaffirmed its positive stance on Cipla, highlighting the pharmaceutical firm's ongoing transition toward complex generics in the US market. The brokerage maintained a target price of Rs 1,610 for the stock, emphasizing the company's ability to build momentum through new product launches despite the loss of revenue from previous large-scale generic contributors like gRevlimid.

Cipla’s core strategy in the US involves replacing one-time, high-revenue products with a sustainable portfolio of respiratory and peptide drugs. The company has already seen progress with approvals for products such as gVentolin and gAdvair. Management has set a strategic goal to reach a quarterly US revenue run-rate of USD 250 million by the fourth quarter of FY27. In the most recent quarter, the company reported US sales of USD 172 million, which represents a 6.2% increase compared to the previous quarter.

Domestically, the company continues to see strong demand within its branded medicine portfolio, particularly in chronic therapies and the newer GLP-1 segment. According to reports cited by the brokerage, the company is also looking to improve growth rates in its trade generics and consumer health divisions. The company's operating margin guidance remains set between 18.5% and 20% for the full year. While projections for earnings per share were adjusted slightly lower for FY27 and FY28 due to changes in expected non-operating income, the company’s underlying operational focus remains consistent.

For investors, the key monitorable remains the speed and success of new product approvals in the US. Pricing pressure in the US generic drug market is a recurring sector challenge that can impact profit margins. Additionally, regulatory compliance is a critical factor for Indian pharmaceutical exporters, and any adverse observations from global regulators like the USFDA could affect manufacturing and supply chains. Future performance will depend on the company's ability to maintain a competitive edge in the complex generics space and successfully scale its newer product launches.
