Century Plyboards Gets 'Buy' From HDFC Securities With Rs 990 Target

HDFC Securities has kept its 'Buy' rating on Century Plyboards with a target price of Rs 990 per share. The brokerage points to strong market demand and new production capacity as key growth drivers. While the company recently posted strong first-quarter growth, investors should track potential profit margin pressure from higher advertising spending.

HDFC Securities has reiterated its 'Buy' recommendation for Century Plyboards, setting a target price of Rs 990 per share. The brokerage remains optimistic about the company's future, citing a combination of strong market demand, consistent market share gains, and the benefits expected from new production capacity.

This positive outlook follows a strong start to the current fiscal year. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, Century Plyboards reported consolidated revenue of Rs 1,561 crore, which marks a 33.5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Additionally, the company saw its profit after tax rise by 57% during the same quarter, reflecting improved operational efficiency.

Growth Strategy and Financial Outlook

The brokerage anticipates that Century Plyboards will continue to outperform its industry peers by leveraging its wide, pan-India distribution network and an extensive product range across various wood panel categories. The company is actively investing in new plywood manufacturing capacity, which is expected to support future revenue and profit growth. HDFC Securities projects a compound annual growth rate for revenue, operating profit, and profit after tax of 15%, 23%, and 30% respectively, for the period between fiscal year 2026 and 2029.

However, the path to growth may face challenges. The brokerage has slightly lowered its profit estimates for the next fiscal year by 4%, attributing this to higher spending on advertising and marketing. While this move is intended to build brand strength and capture market share, it may cause the company's profit margins to come under pressure in the short term.

Risks and Monitorables

Investors should keep a close watch on several factors that could influence the company’s performance. One primary risk is the volatility in prices of key raw materials, such as timber and resin. Since these commodities are essential to the business, any significant price fluctuation can impact profitability.

Additionally, the company is sensitive to the broader economic environment, particularly the real estate sector. A slowdown in housing sales or construction activity could lead to lower demand for plywood and related wood products. Investors should also track how smoothly the company integrates its new production facilities, as any delay in the ramp-up of this capacity could affect the projected growth targets. The company's ability to maintain its profit margins while balancing these expansion costs and competitive pressures remains a key area to monitor in upcoming quarterly updates.
