Can Fin Homes Q2 Profit Rises 9%, Jefferies Retains Buy

Can Fin Homes reported a 9.2% increase in net profit to ₹275 crore for the September 2026 quarter, exceeding expectations. While a new IT system implementation caused temporary delays in loan disbursals, the company's loan book reached ₹43,539 crore. Following the results, Jefferies maintained a 'Buy' rating with a price target of ₹1,075, as shares rose approximately 2.5% in today's trade.

Can Fin Homes, the housing finance arm promoted by Canara Bank, announced its financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, showing a net profit of ₹275 crore. This reflects a 9.2% growth compared to the same quarter last year, a performance that surpassed market estimates. The company’s stock responded positively to the announcement, trading roughly 2.5% higher during the day.

Impact of IT Transformation on Lending

Despite the growth in profit, the company’s loan disbursement pace saw some impact during the quarter. This was primarily due to the ongoing implementation of a new technology system known as 'Project Tejas.' While this platform is designed to modernize operations, the transition caused temporary disruptions in loan processing, which slowed down the growth of new home loan disbursals. Consequently, the company's total loan book grew to ₹43,539 crore, representing a 10% increase year-on-year.

Asset Quality and Financial Margins

Asset quality remains a key metric for housing finance companies, and Can Fin Homes reported Gross NPA at 0.90% and Net NPA at 0.43% as of September 30, 2026. While these figures indicate that the portfolio remains largely stable, investors are closely watching the net interest margins, or the difference between the interest the company earns on loans and the interest it pays to borrow funds. Minor margin pressure was observed during the quarter, as the rising cost of funds offset some of the gains from improved loan yields.

Brokerage Outlook and Future Monitorables

Jefferies has maintained its 'Buy' rating on the stock with a target price of ₹1,075. The brokerage cited the company's operational resilience as a key factor for this outlook, noting that the business model is still supported by strong demand in the low-to-middle-income housing segment. The primary risk for the company remains the potential for margin compression if home loan interest rates face downward pressure or if competition forces the company to lower lending rates.

Going forward, the most important update for investors will be the successful stabilization of the new 'Project Tejas' IT system. Once the implementation phase is complete, market participants will monitor whether this improves the speed of loan processing and operational efficiency, potentially leading to a recovery in disbursement growth. Additionally, investors will track whether the company can maintain stable asset quality metrics in the coming quarters as it balances growth with lending standards.
