Ashoka Buildcon Shares Dip as Management Cuts FY27 Outlook

Ashoka Buildcon shares faced pressure as the company reported a weak June quarter, with consolidated revenue falling over 20% compared to last year. Management lowered its revenue growth and profit margin targets for the full fiscal year. Investors are now focused on delayed asset sales and their impact on cash flow.

Ashoka Buildcon (ASBL) shares saw downward pressure as the company released its financial results for the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. The company reported a consolidated revenue of INR 1,500 crore for the June quarter, marking a decline of 20.5% compared to the same period last year. This soft performance was primarily due to a change in the pace of asset monetization and project execution schedules.

Margin Pressure and Guidance Revision

The company's profitability also faced challenges, with operating profit margins coming under pressure. The standalone EBITDA margin, which measures core operational profitability, contracted to 9.5% from 11.3% in the year-ago quarter. Management attributed this decline to higher costs incurred upfront for mobilizing and establishing new projects. Due to these factors, the company decided to lower its expectations for the full financial year. The revenue growth forecast for FY27 has been revised downward to a range of 10-15%, compared to the earlier projection of 20%. Similarly, the EBITDA margin guidance for the year has been adjusted to 9-9.5%.

Asset Monetization Delays

A critical concern for investors in this update is the status of the company’s asset monetization plans. Ashoka Buildcon had aimed to sell several of its highway projects, known as Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) assets, to improve cash flow and reduce debt. However, these sales have faced delays. The company has pushed the expected completion date for the sale of four HAM assets to September 2026. This delay means that the expected cash inflow, which is important for the company's balance sheet health and future spending power, will be realized later than initially anticipated.

Order Book Strength

Despite the near-term challenges, the company’s business pipeline remains significant. As of June 30, 2026, Ashoka Buildcon’s order book stood at INR 15,251 crore. This represents a strong revenue visibility, being approximately 2.6 times its standalone revenue over the last twelve months. The order book is well-distributed, with a major portion in the road and railway sectors, alongside a growing presence in power transmission and distribution. While this strong order book provides a base for future business, investors are looking for improved project execution to translate this work into faster revenue growth.

Going forward, shareholders and investors may monitor the company's ability to maintain its profit margins and execute the delayed asset sales by the revised September 2026 deadline. Management has indicated that they expect performance to improve in the second half of the fiscal year as newly started projects gain momentum and reach a more productive stage. The market will also track the pace of collections in the power transmission segment, which remains a key area for cash flow management.
