Ajanta Pharma Target Set at Rs 4,250 by Prabhudas Lilladher

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has set a target price of Rs 4,250 for Ajanta Pharma, driven by strong second-quarter financial results and a strategic partnership for semaglutide. Investors are watching the company’s ability to maintain its profit margins and execute its global growth strategy.

Prabhudas Lilladher has released a target price of Rs 4,250 for Ajanta Pharma, following a strong performance by the company in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027. This update comes as the company continues to see growth across its core markets and prepares to introduce new products through strategic collaborations.

Financial Performance and Growth

Ajanta Pharma reported a 33% year-on-year revenue increase for the second quarter, reaching Rs 1,794 crore. The company’s profitability also saw a significant boost, with net profit rising 49% to Rs 388 crore compared to the same period last year. Operational efficiency was a highlight, with EBITDA (operating profit) growing 47% to Rs 543 crore, resulting in healthy margins of 30.3%. These numbers indicate the company’s ability to manage costs effectively while expanding its revenue base.

A major part of the company's growth story is its branded generic business. Markets in India, Asia, and Africa accounted for 70% of total revenue in fiscal year 2026, providing a stable foundation for the business. To build on this, Ajanta Pharma has entered into an in-licensing agreement with Biocon to market semaglutide across 26 countries. This agreement is viewed as a medium-term catalyst, as it allows the company to add a high-value product to its portfolio in key international regions without the high initial costs of independent research.

Valuation and Investor Risks

The brokerage’s target of Rs 4,250 is based on 32 times the earnings projections for September 2028. Currently, the stock trades at approximately 29 times its fiscal year 2028 estimated earnings. While these valuations reflect investor confidence in the company’s growth trajectory, there are specific risks to monitor.

Operational success is closely tied to securing timely regulatory approvals for complex products like semaglutide. Any delay in these approvals could affect the anticipated growth from the new partnership. Additionally, the company is exposed to foreign exchange volatility, which can influence profit margins depending on currency movements in its international markets. Investors should also watch for the sustainability of demand in its institutional business in Africa, where growth rates can occasionally normalize after strong periods. The company’s ability to maintain its outperformance against the broader Indian pharmaceutical market remains a key factor for shareholders to track.
