Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Target Price Cut to ₹105

Motilal Oswal has lowered its target price for Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands to ₹105 from ₹110, maintaining a Neutral rating. While the company recorded 11% revenue growth, profit margins were affected by increased inventory costs. Investors are watching how the firm manages its product mix and rising inventory levels amid competitive pressure.

Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal has updated its outlook on Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands, revising the target price downward to ₹105 from the previous ₹110. The firm continues to maintain a Neutral rating on the stock, suggesting a cautious approach to the company's current financial performance and market valuation.

The company's latest data shows a revenue increase of 11% compared to the same period last year. This growth was largely supported by the emerging brands segment, which saw a strong performance with a 19% increase. The core lifestyle brands division also contributed with 10% growth, helped by a 7% rise in retail like-for-like sales and steady e-commerce demand. However, this pace of growth remains lower than competitors like Arvind Fashions, which reported an expansion of approximately 16% in a similar period.

Margin Trends and Inventory Management

Profitability faced challenges during the period as gross margins contracted by 155 basis points to 61%. This dip is attributed to an unfavorable channel mix and a rise in inventory provisioning, which is the practice of setting aside money for potential losses on unsold stock. When a company holds more inventory than it can sell quickly, it often has to provide for these items, which directly hits the bottom line.

Despite these pressures, the company managed to post a 17% increase in EBITDA, a key measure of operating profit. This was achieved by controlling costs related to employees and store rentals. The resulting EBITDA margin rose by 75 basis points to 15.1%, as the company leveraged its operational size to keep overheads in check.

Investor Monitorables

For investors, the key area to track is whether the company can successfully manage its inventory levels to prevent further margin erosion. The shift toward higher-value products and the performance of emerging brands will be central to maintaining profit margins in a competitive retail environment. As the company continues its expansion, the balance between revenue growth and the cost of maintaining high inventory levels will be a primary indicator of its financial health. Investors should also monitor how the company’s performance compares to its peers, particularly in terms of market share and the ability to pass on costs to consumers.
