Adani Ports Leads Sector Growth Outlook as Q2 Results Near

Brokerage firm PL Capital projects 16.2% revenue growth for the Indian ports sector in Q2 FY27. While Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone remains a top pick due to strong container volumes and international assets, investors are watching for the impact of recent weather disruptions and commodity price fluctuations.

The Indian ports sector is heading into the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year with a steady growth forecast. According to recent projections from PL Capital, the sector is expected to see a 16.2% increase in revenue and a 14.1% rise in EBITDA compared to the same period last year. Net profit for the coverage universe is projected to grow by 5.1%. These numbers reflect a sector that is managing to sustain growth despite various challenges.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) continues to stand out in these projections. The company has shown strong momentum, recording 15% year-on-year cargo volume growth in the first half of the 2027 fiscal year, reaching 280 million metric tonnes. As of early October 2026, the company's stock is trading in the range of ₹1,693 to ₹1,713. Analysts point to the company’s consistent container throughput and the contribution from its international assets, such as terminals in Australia and Israel, as key factors keeping its performance resilient.

In contrast, JSW Infrastructure is managing a more complex operational path. The company is dealing with lower volume growth, largely linked to its facility in Fujairah. While its domestic operations at terminals like Jaigarh and Dharamtar are expected to perform well, the recovery of overall volumes is tied to the expansion of its group-owned steel units. Investors often compare the two, noting that APSEZ has a more diversified international footprint, whereas JSW Infrastructure is currently focused on domestic integration.

While the outlook remains constructive, the sector is not without its pressures. Operators have faced operational hurdles, including weather-related disruptions like cyclones along India’s East Coast. Furthermore, a slowdown in the demand for specific commodities, such as imported thermal coal and liquid cargo, has acted as a drag on domestic throughput. These factors have tempered the growth expectations for some players, creating a mixed picture for the quarter.

Investors are now looking ahead to the upcoming financial results. Adani Ports is scheduled to announce its Q2 FY27 earnings on October 28, 2026. Beyond the immediate profit numbers, the key monitorables for shareholders will be the company's management commentary regarding international asset performance, the pace of capacity expansion at locations like the Colombo West International Terminal, and the strategies for navigating any lingering weather-related or commodity demand risks. The company also has investor meetings scheduled for mid-November in Singapore, which will be another point of interest for the market.
