ICICI Securities has upgraded Adani Energy Solutions to 'Buy' with a Rs 1,600 price target following a 2.5x jump in Q2FY27 profits. The performance was led by its energy trading segment and the Mumbai HVDC project. Investors should watch the company's ability to clear its Rs 872 billion order book and maintain project execution speed in the coming quarters.
Adani Energy Solutions has received a rating upgrade to 'Buy' from ICICI Securities, with a target price of Rs 1,600. This follows the company’s strong financial performance for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. Profitability for the quarter grew 2.5 times compared to the same period a year ago, reaching Rs 13.6 billion. Operating profit, or EBITDA, also saw a notable increase of 68% year-on-year.
The improvement in earnings was primarily driven by the company's energy solutions trading segment. Another important factor was the successful commissioning of the Mumbai high-voltage direct current (HVDC) project, which has started contributing to the company's operational revenue. These segments helped the company overcome the lower base numbers from the previous year.
The company’s transmission order book currently stands at Rs 872 billion, marking a significant rise from the Rs 718 billion reported in June 2026. A major part of this pipeline is a 2.5GW round-the-clock power contract with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company. This contract is expected to provide long-term revenue visibility, as the company works to integrate this into its operational capacity.
Despite the positive financial results, there are operational factors that investors should monitor. During the first half of the fiscal year, some project completions faced delays despite the company spending significant amounts of money on expansion. The company’s management has stated that they anticipate a faster pace of project capitalization during the second half of the year. This transition from spending to actual asset completion will be critical for maintaining these growth numbers.
Moving forward, the primary focus for the company will be its execution capabilities. While the market outlook for transmission infrastructure and smart meters remains favorable due to high structural demand, the company's final performance will depend on whether it can successfully deliver on its large order book without further delays in project commissioning. The pace of execution and how quickly new projects start generating revenue will be the key areas for investors to track in the coming months.
