ACC Shares: PL Capital Sees 72% Upside Amid Cement Sector Overweight Rating

Brokerage firm PL Capital has issued an 'Overweight' rating on the Indian cement sector, highlighting a 72% potential upside for ACC with a target price of ₹2,198. While the long-term outlook remains constructive, the report warns of margin risks linked to high fuel costs and monsoon-related demand uncertainty. Investors should watch for upcoming pricing adjustments in September 2026.

Brokerage firm PL Capital has initiated a constructive outlook on the Indian cement industry, assigning an ‘Overweight’ rating to the sector. Among the companies under its coverage, ACC Limited has been highlighted with a 'Buy' rating and a target price of ₹2,198, suggesting a potential upside of approximately 72%. This assessment comes as the industry navigates a period of seasonal softness, which is typical for the second quarter due to monsoon-related impacts on construction activity.

Despite the seasonal slowdown, the brokerage notes that cement prices remained broadly stable through August 2026. The firm believes that companies with a diversified regional presence and disciplined cost management are better positioned to weather the current cycle. For ACC specifically, the brokerage's outlook takes into account the company's operational efficiency and its ongoing strategic developments. Investors should note that ACC is currently undergoing an amalgamation process with Ambuja Cements, with regulatory and stakeholder meetings held throughout August 2026. This consolidation is a critical factor in the market's current assessment of the company’s future scale and potential value.

However, the cement sector is not without challenges. The PL Capital report flags persistent pressure from high power, fuel, and freight expenses, which are partly attributed to geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Additionally, rainfall deficits in key markets, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and parts of Southern India, create uncertainty regarding the strength of demand recovery in the upcoming quarters. These factors could soften volume growth if construction activity does not pick up as expected.

The ability of cement manufacturers to protect their profit margins will depend heavily on pricing power. Industry participants are currently banking on potential price adjustments in September 2026 to offset these rising operational costs. If manufacturers cannot sustain these price hikes, profit margins may come under pressure. The gap between production expenses and actual retail realizations will be a major monitorable for the remainder of the fiscal year. Investors tracking this sector should watch for management commentary on pricing sustainability and any further updates regarding the ACC-Ambuja merger progress.
