Utkarsh Small Finance Bank Q2 Disbursements Rise 55% to ₹3,525 Crore

Utkarsh Small Finance Bank reported a 55% surge in Q2 disbursements as it shifts focus away from traditional microfinance. The bank's non-JLG portfolio now makes up 74% of its lending. While asset quality remains stable with a 99.53% collection efficiency, investors are closely watching the bank's ability to turn its recent financial losses into sustained profit.

Utkarsh Small Finance Bank (USFB) recorded a significant rise in business activity during the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year. The lender reported total loan disbursements of ₹3,525 crore, marking a 54.9% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is part of a broader, aggressive structural change the bank is undergoing as it pivots its strategy.

Portfolio Transition Toward Non-JLG Lending

The bank is actively rebalancing its loan book, moving away from its traditional joint liability group (JLG) microfinance business toward non-JLG segments. This strategy was visible in the latest quarterly data, where non-JLG disbursements jumped 94.2% to ₹2,602 crore. As a result, the composition of the bank's loan portfolio has shifted significantly; the JLG-to-non-JLG mix now stands at 26:74, a sharp change from the 41:59 ratio reported in the same quarter last year.

This shift is also reflected in the bank's risk appetite, as it increases its secured lending to balance its portfolio. As of October 6, 2026, the company’s stock has been trading in the range of ₹13.2 to ₹13.6, with the market assessing the long-term impact of this structural pivot on the bank's business model.

Asset Quality and Deposit Growth

Despite the rapid change in its lending mix, the bank’s asset quality metrics showed resilience. The X-bucket collection efficiency remained strong at 99.53%. Additionally, the special mention account (SMA) pool, which tracks potentially stressed loans, dropped to 1.48%, an improvement from the 4.87% level recorded during the same period last year.

On the funding side, total deposits grew by 6.6% to ₹23,869 crore. The bank also saw an improvement in its cost-effective funding, with the current account, savings account (CASA) ratio rising to 21.5%, up from 20% in the previous year. This improvement helps the bank reduce its reliance on costlier bulk term deposits.

Investor Monitorables

While operational growth and asset quality metrics are encouraging, the bank faces the challenge of recovering its profitability. The company has reported net losses in recent quarters, making the upcoming earnings report a critical monitorable for investors. The key focus for the market will be whether this high disbursement growth and the structural shift to non-JLG lending can eventually lead to stable, consistent bottom-line growth and lower credit costs. Investors will likely track management commentary in the coming weeks for clarity on the timeline for achieving sustained profitability.
