Sundaram Home Finance Q1 Profit Rises 37% To ₹85 Crore

Sundaram Home Finance reported a 37% jump in Q1 FY27 net profit to ₹85 crore, supported by a 12% rise in loan disbursements. The lender’s assets under management reached ₹20,325 crore, driven by strong growth in smaller towns.

Sundaram Home Finance, a subsidiary of the Chennai-based Sundaram Finance, has reported a steady start to the 2027 fiscal year. For the quarter ending June 2026, the company recorded a net profit of ₹85 crore, compared to ₹62 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Lending and Portfolio Growth

The company’s core lending operations showed positive momentum, with total loan disbursements reaching ₹1,665 crore, a 12% increase from ₹1,488 crore in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. This expansion in lending activity has pushed the company's total assets under management to ₹20,325 crore, marking an 11% year-on-year growth.

Focus on Small-Ticket Loans

A significant factor in this quarter’s results was the rapid scaling of the company’s Emerging Business segment, which focuses on affordable housing and smaller-ticket loans. Disbursements in this category more than doubled to ₹180 crore, up from ₹83 crore in the same period last year. According to the management, this growth is largely tied to increased economic activity and housing demand in tier-2 and tier-3 towns, particularly across southern India where the company has been expanding its footprint.

Understanding the Business Model

Sundaram Home Finance operates as a specialized mortgage lender providing a mix of home loans, plot loans, and home improvement loans. For investors, the company's focus on affordable housing is a key area to monitor, as it targets a segment often underserved by larger commercial banks. The profitability of this segment depends heavily on the company's ability to maintain high collection rates and manage the risks associated with smaller-income borrowers.

Future Monitorables

Moving forward, the primary factor for investors will be the sustainability of the growth in the Emerging Business segment. While the rapid expansion indicates strong demand, it also requires effective risk management and efficient cost control to maintain profit margins. Investors should keep a close eye on future quarterly reports for updates on asset quality, specifically looking for any rise in bad loans or stress in the affordable housing portfolio as the company scales its presence in smaller towns.
