REC Shares Gain 2% After Strong Q1 Earnings and Dividends

REC Ltd shares rose 2% to Rs 368.85 following a 24% quarterly profit jump to Rs 4,192.76 crore. Investors are reacting to consistent earnings growth and upcoming dividend payouts, with the stock maintaining positive momentum as a Nifty Next 50 constituent.

Detailed Coverage

Shares of state-owned power finance company REC Ltd moved 2% higher to Rs 368.85 on Monday, reflecting investor response to the firm's latest financial results. The company, which specializes in financing power infrastructure projects, reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 4,192.76 crore for the quarter ending June 2026. This marks a 24.22% increase compared to the previous quarter, signaling a recovery in bottom-line performance.

Financial data over the past five fiscal years shows a consistent expansion for the company. Revenue grew from Rs 39,269.05 crore in fiscal year 2022 to Rs 59,584.16 crore by 2026, representing a rise of over 51%. During the same period, net profit increased by 62.31%, moving from Rs 10,047.51 crore to Rs 16,308.17 crore. The Earnings Per Share (EPS) also saw a corresponding rise, climbing from Rs 50.82 to Rs 61.81, which highlights the company's ability to maintain earnings efficiency alongside its growing scale.

Supporting this market movement, REC has announced two major dividend actions. A final dividend for the 2025-26 fiscal year has been set with a record date of August 14, 2026. Additionally, the company has declared an interim dividend for the 2026-27 fiscal year, with the stock set to trade ex-dividend on July 31, 2026. Such consistent payouts are often monitored by investors as a sign of stable cash flow generation.

As a non-banking financial company (NBFC) primarily focused on the power sector, REC's financial health is closely tied to the capital spending cycles of power generation, transmission, and distribution entities across India. While the company has demonstrated steady growth, its performance in upcoming quarters will depend on the pace of project execution by its borrowers and the overall demand for power infrastructure financing. Investors typically track the asset quality and the spread—the difference between the interest it earns on loans and the interest it pays on borrowings—to understand long-term profitability. The next important step for shareholders will be observing the company's loan disbursement targets and any updates on interest rate fluctuations that could affect net interest margins in the coming quarters.
