PC Jeweller has successfully repaid all outstanding debt to nine of its 14 consortium lenders, moving closer to becoming a debt-free company. Shares gained nearly 6% as the retailer inches toward fully settling its remaining obligations by the end of September 2026.
PC Jeweller has achieved a significant milestone in its financial restructuring, formally announcing the full repayment of all outstanding debt to nine of its 14 consortium banks. This development follows the terms of a settlement agreement originally signed on September 30, 2024. The company's stock responded positively to the update, climbing approximately 5-6% during today’s trading session on the National Stock Exchange.
Progress Toward Debt-Free Status
The retailer is not only settling dues with the nine banks but has also made substantial progress with the remaining five lenders. According to the company's update, more than 96% of the liabilities associated with these five banks have already been cleared. With less than 4% of the original consortium debt remaining, management has set a target to achieve complete debt-free status by the end of September 2026. This process is expected to significantly reduce the interest burden on the balance sheet and provide the company with greater financial flexibility to support its future operations.
Financial Performance Context
This debt resolution comes at a time when the company has been focusing on stabilizing its business. In its recent performance update for the first quarter of the 2027 financial year, PC Jeweller reported a consolidated net profit of ₹222 crore on a revenue of ₹877.04 crore. This financial performance has been a key factor in the company’s ability to generate the cash required to meet its repayment schedules ahead of time. By cutting down on debt, the company aims to improve its long-term financial health.
Future Outlook and Risks
While the reduction in debt is a positive step for the balance sheet, the company continues to operate in a highly competitive organized jewellery retail sector. Success in this space often requires strong market presence and consistent demand, which remain important monitorables. Furthermore, the company must now complete the final stage of its restructuring by settling the remaining sliver of its liabilities. Investors will continue to watch for the final confirmation of a completely debt-free status by the end of the month, as this will mark the end of a long period of credit-related constraints for the retailer.
