Navi Ltd. Secures $100M From Prosus, Eyes FY27 IPO

Fintech firm Navi Ltd. has raised $100 million in its first institutional funding round from Prosus to fuel growth ahead of a planned IPO in fiscal year 2027. Its lending arm, Navi Finserv, is now diversifying its portfolio beyond personal loans, tapping into its UPI user base to enter segments like merchant financing and loans against mutual funds.

Navi Ltd., the fintech firm founded by Sachin Bansal, has secured $100 million in funding from the Dutch investment group Prosus. This marks the company's first major institutional capital infusion, providing a significant boost to its balance sheet as it prepares for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the current fiscal year 2027. The company is reportedly targeting a valuation of approximately $2 billion for its public listing.

As part of this growth strategy, the company's lending subsidiary, Navi Finserv, is working to reduce its heavy reliance on unsecured personal loans. As of March 31, 2026, personal loans made up the vast majority of the company's ₹13,000 crore loan book. To build a more stable portfolio, the NBFC is now expanding into new products, specifically merchant financing and loans against mutual funds.

This expansion is directly tied to the growth of the group's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform. By July 2026, Navi's UPI service had become the fourth-largest in India by transaction volume. The company uses this payments ecosystem as a funnel to acquire customers, allowing it to cross-sell financial products to a large user base without the high cost of traditional marketing.

For investors, the path to the IPO involves balancing aggressive growth with financial discipline. While the group reported a consolidated net loss of ₹466 crore for fiscal year 2026—up from ₹126 crore in the previous year due to heavy spending on building the UPI ecosystem—it notably achieved a consolidated break-even in the quarter ending March 2026. This shift toward profitability will be a key metric for the market to watch as the company moves toward its public debut.

Navi Finserv has also faced regulatory challenges that investors should keep in mind. In late 2024, the company was subject to a temporary ban on sanctioning new loans by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) due to compliance concerns. While that matter has since passed, it highlights the regulatory scrutiny that fintech lenders operating in India often face. The company’s ability to maintain strict compliance standards while scaling its new loan products will be a critical factor for long-term stability.

Moving forward, the primary monitorables for investors will be the sustainability of the new loan segments and the company's ability to maintain profitability at the consolidated level. The success of the IPO will likely depend on how well Navi Finserv can transition from an aggressive, cash-burning growth model to a more balanced, profit-oriented business as it approaches the public markets.
