Karur Vysya Bank Q2 Profit Jumps 37% to ₹788 Crore

Karur Vysya Bank reported a 37.3% rise in net profit to ₹788 crore for the second quarter of FY27. This growth was driven by an 18.7% increase in interest income and a steady improvement in asset quality, with gross bad loans dropping to 0.69%.

Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) has reported strong financial results for the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, demonstrating consistent growth in its core lending business. The bank announced a net profit of ₹788 crore, a 37.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. For the first half of the fiscal year, the bank's net profit reached ₹1,543 crore, marking a 40.9% growth.

The bank's profitability was supported by a rise in net interest income—the difference between interest earned on loans and interest paid on deposits—which grew by 18.7% to ₹1,497 crore. A key highlight for investors is the bank's net interest margin, which improved slightly to 4.3% from 4.2% last year, suggesting efficient management of borrowing and lending rates.

Business Growth and Asset Quality

Total business volumes showed significant expansion, crossing ₹2.39 lakh crore as of September 30, an 18% increase year-on-year. Deposits grew by 16% to reach ₹1.28 lakh crore, while the loan book, or total advances, saw a 20% jump to ₹1.11 lakh crore. In the current banking environment, where many lenders are competing aggressively for deposits, this level of deposit growth is a positive signal for the bank's ability to fund its loan expansion.

Asset quality also remained healthy. The bank’s gross non-performing assets (bad loans) improved to 0.69%, down from 0.76% in the same quarter last year. Net non-performing assets, which account for provisions, remained stable at 0.18%. This trend suggests that the bank is effectively managing the risks associated with its growing loan portfolio.

Market and Governance Updates

Following the results, the bank's stock reacted positively, closing at ₹345.50 on the BSE, a gain of 1.22% for the day. Additionally, the board approved the allotment of 14,442 equity shares to senior management under the existing employee stock option scheme.

Going forward, investors may track how the bank maintains its profit margins if the interest rate environment shifts. The ability to sustain loan growth while keeping bad loans low will be a key factor for the bank's performance in the coming quarters.
