Jio Platforms Q2 Profit Up 13.7% as 5G Users Hit 300 Million

Jio Platforms reported a net profit of ₹8,389 crore for Q2 FY27, a 13.7% increase driven by strong subscriber growth and 5G adoption. Revenue grew 11.4% to ₹40,475 crore as the company successfully reduced its debt to ₹58,943 crore. Investors are now focusing on whether rising data consumption will support further revenue growth per user in future quarters.

Jio Platforms has released its financial results for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, marking its first quarterly update since going public. The company reported a net profit of ₹8,389 crore, reflecting a 13.7% year-on-year increase. Revenue from operations also saw a steady rise, reaching ₹40,475 crore, which is an 11.4% improvement compared to the same period last year.

The company’s operational efficiency appears to be improving, with operating profit margins (EBITDA) expanding by 250 basis points to reach 54.1%. A significant highlight for the quarter was the reduction in borrowings, which fell to ₹58,943 crore as of September 2026, down from ₹70,781 crore in March 2026. This trend suggests the company is focusing on strengthening its balance sheet following its capital-intensive expansion phase.

Driving this growth is a massive subscriber base of 542.4 million, with 300 million users now migrated to the 5G network. The company’s fixed broadband segment is also seeing momentum, with AirFiber helping to reach 30 million fixed broadband users. By targeting areas where traditional fiber deployment is difficult, AirFiber has become a key part of the company's growth strategy in the home connectivity market.

While the headline numbers show growth, investors are paying close attention to the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), which currently stands at ₹218.8 per month. A notable challenge for the sector is that data consumption is growing faster than ARPU. This indicates that while customers are using more data, they are not necessarily paying significantly more for it. For investors, the ability of the company to drive revenue through future tariff revisions or higher-value service adoption will be a key monitorable in the coming quarters.

Several factors may influence the stock's future performance. The company continues to face high infrastructure investment requirements, and the capitalization of 5G assets has led to higher finance costs, which have partially offset the gains in operating profit. Furthermore, with a public free float of less than 3%, the stock may experience higher volatility in the near term. The management’s ability to manage these costs while maintaining its lead in the highly competitive Indian telecom sector remains the primary focus for market participants as the company settles into its post-IPO phase.
