Infibeam’s CCAvenue Integrates Apple Pay for Merchants

CCAvenue, the payment gateway arm of Infibeam Avenues, has launched Apple Pay for its Indian merchant network. This feature is aimed at attracting premium users and enhancing the checkout experience. Investors may track whether this integration drives transaction growth and helps the company compete in a crowded digital payments market.

CCAvenue, the flagship payment platform operated by listed company Infibeam Avenues, has started offering Apple Pay to its network of merchants across India. This update allows businesses to provide a checkout option that uses the security features built into Apple devices, such as Face ID and Touch ID, without needing to manually enter card details.

For a payment gateway, adding new payment options is a standard way to stay competitive. By integrating Apple Pay, CCAvenue is aiming to make the payment process faster and more secure for shoppers. This is particularly relevant for merchants in sectors like travel, e-commerce, and high-end retail, where customers often look for quick, hassle-free transactions.

The Indian digital payments market is highly competitive and is currently dominated by the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). While UPI is the preferred method for the masses due to its ease and low cost, Apple Pay targets a specific premium segment of smartphone users. Infibeam Avenues, which processed approximately INR 5.04 trillion in transactions in the last fiscal year, is looking to strengthen its technology to ensure it remains a preferred choice for businesses that want a wide range of payment methods.

Investors should note that payment gateways in India operate on thin margins and face constant pressure from both large competitors like Razorpay, BillDesk, and Cashfree, as well as the widespread adoption of UPI transactions. While this integration improves the feature list, the overall impact on revenue will depend on how many merchants adopt this feature and how frequently customers choose Apple Pay over other available payment options.

Another point to consider is regulatory compliance. Digital payment players in India must strictly follow Reserve Bank of India guidelines regarding tokenization and data storage. CCAvenue has stated that it is using Apple’s tokenization process to ensure that card data is not shared directly with merchants, which aligns with these requirements.

Looking ahead, the main factors for investors to watch will be the growth in transaction volumes and the company’s ability to maintain its market share against aggressive competition. The success of this move will not be measured by the launch alone, but by how much it contributes to the total value of payments processed on the platform in the coming quarters.
