India PMS AUM Hits ₹44.11 Lakh Crore In July 2026

India's portfolio management services (PMS) industry grew its assets under management by 2% to ₹44.11 lakh crore in July. This expansion was supported by strong investor inflows and a record increase in new distributors. While the industry is growing, investors should track factors like market volatility and evolving regulatory norms that could influence future performance.

The Indian portfolio management services (PMS) industry continued its steady growth in July 2026, with assets under management (AUM) rising to ₹44.11 lakh crore. This 2% month-on-month increase reflects sustained momentum, with the total AUM and client base both recording an 11% growth compared to the same period last year. The client base also expanded during the month, reaching approximately 2.23 lakh accounts.

Record Distributor Growth and Inflows

One of the primary drivers of this expansion has been a significant broadening of the distribution network. July 2026 saw the highest number of new distributor additions in the current fiscal year, with 1,226 individual and 181 non-individual distributors joining the PMS ecosystem. This expanded reach has facilitated higher capital flows into the sector, with net inflows climbing to ₹4.66 lakh crore, compared to ₹3.55 lakh crore reported in June.

Discretionary services, where the fund manager makes investment decisions on behalf of the client, remain the most popular segment. This category accounts for 84.7% of total AUM and 95.5% of the total client base. Among different service types, co-investment services reported the highest monthly growth at 10.2%, followed by advisory and non-discretionary services.

Sector Outlook and Risks

While the industry is seeing robust participation from domestic investors—who make up 95% of the total AUM—several factors could influence future performance. The industry faces pressure from inherent market volatility, which directly impacts the valuation of underlying assets in these portfolios. Additionally, macroeconomic challenges such as inflation and fluctuating input costs for businesses continue to create an uncertain environment that can affect the disposable income of potential investors.

Another important monitorable is the regulatory environment. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has been increasingly focused on transparency, governance, and standardisation across the asset management space. Firms are currently adapting their operational models to meet these evolving requirements, which adds a layer of compliance complexity. Investors should keep track of further regulatory updates from APMI and SEBI, as well as the industry's ability to maintain these growth rates amid fluctuating market conditions.
