ITC Q2 Profit Drops 18%, NALCO Declares ₹4.50 Dividend, Lupin Gets USFDA Nod

Indian markets are reacting to mixed Q2 FY27 earnings results. ITC reported an 18% profit decline despite revenue growth, while NALCO posted a 28% profit rise and declared a ₹4.50 dividend. Meanwhile, Lupin secured USFDA approval for a new generic drug, potentially boosting its US market presence.

Indian markets are navigating a busy earnings week as major companies release their September quarter (Q2 FY27) performance reports. The latest updates highlight contrasting trends, with some companies managing to grow their bottom line while others face pressure from taxes and rising costs.

ITC Faces Margin Pressure

ITC reported a significant 43.85% jump in revenue to ₹30,578.4 crore for the quarter ended September 2026. However, its consolidated net profit fell by 18.45% to ₹4,229.33 crore. This divergence between top-line growth and bottom-line performance highlights the challenges the company is facing. The drop in profit is largely attributed to higher excise duty on cigarettes and ongoing inflationary pressures that have weighed on profit margins. Investors may monitor whether the company can pass on these higher costs to consumers without impacting volume growth in the coming quarters.

NALCO Declares Dividend Amid Strong Growth

National Aluminium Company (NALCO) presented a strong year-on-year performance, with a 28.04% increase in standalone net profit to ₹1,835.09 crore. Revenue for the company also grew by 26.26% to ₹5,419.44 crore compared to the same period last year. Following these results, the company declared an interim dividend of ₹4.50 per share. The record date for this dividend payout has been set for November 6, 2026. While the year-on-year growth is positive, investors should note that the company saw a sequential decline in net profit and a contraction in profit margins compared to the previous June quarter, indicating that market conditions remain volatile.

Lupin Receives USFDA Approval

Lupin has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its Amifampridine Tablets (10 mg). This drug is used to treat a rare condition that causes muscle weakness. As a first-to-file applicant, Lupin is eligible for 180 days of shared generic exclusivity in the US market. This approval is a significant development, as it allows the company to enter a specific therapeutic segment with less competition for a limited period, potentially supporting its US revenue stream.

As the earnings season continues, the broader market remains sensitive to inflationary pressures and commodity price fluctuations. For ITC, the key monitorable remains its ability to manage input cost pressures. For NALCO, shareholders may look at whether the company can maintain its margin levels after the recent quarterly dip. For Lupin, the success of the new product launch will be the primary focus for stakeholders in the upcoming quarters.
