IDBI Bank Business Hits ₹6.27 Lakh Crore in Q2, Up 18%

IDBI Bank reported an 18% year-on-year growth in total business to ₹6.27 lakh crore for the second quarter, led by strong gains in deposits and loans. This provisional update highlights the bank's operational scale-up, though investors remain focused on margin management and the ongoing disinvestment process.

IDBI Bank has announced its provisional business figures for the second quarter ending September 30, 2026, showing an 18% year-on-year expansion in total business, which reached ₹6.27 lakh crore. This growth reflects the bank's continued efforts to expand its retail and corporate credit reach, with total deposits and net advances both showing double-digit growth.

Broadening the Balance Sheet

During the quarter, the bank’s total deposits grew by 17% compared to the previous year, standing at ₹3.56 lakh crore. Simultaneously, net advances saw an 18% increase to ₹2.72 lakh crore. A key component of this growth is the 12% rise in Current Account Savings Account (CASA) deposits, which reached ₹1.56 lakh crore. CASA is an important metric for banks as it represents low-cost funds, which help in managing the cost of borrowings and supporting overall profitability.

While this growth indicates a larger footprint, the banking sector currently faces industry-wide pressure regarding deposit mobilization. As banks compete to attract savers, the cost of funds can rise, which may put pressure on Net Interest Margins (NIMs). Investors are keeping a close watch on whether the bank can maintain a healthy balance between aggressive loan growth and the cost of acquiring these deposits.

Key Monitorables for Shareholders

Beyond operational growth, the stock has experienced activity, with share prices hovering around the ₹86 range in early October 2026. A significant factor influencing market sentiment is the ongoing strategic disinvestment process. Uncertainty regarding the timeline and the final outcome of the stake sale by the government and LIC continues to be a central theme for the stock. This situation often leads to volatility, as potential investors weigh the bank's improving operational metrics against the long-term changes expected from a change in ownership.

Looking ahead, the focus will shift to the detailed financial results for the quarter. Investors may look for clarity on asset quality, specifically Gross Non-Performing Asset (NPA) levels, and how the bank’s management plans to handle competitive pressure in the lending market. The upcoming full report will provide a clearer picture of whether this business volume expansion is translating effectively into sustainable profit growth or if increased credit activity is affecting the bank’s liquidity buffers.
