HUDCO Profit Jumps 35% to ₹851 Crore in Q1 FY27

Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) reported a 35% jump in net profit to ₹851.11 crore for the June 2026 quarter. This growth was driven by record loan sanctions of ₹65,485 crore and an improved asset quality with gross NPAs falling to 0.96%. The company's lower borrowing costs also helped boost margins.

Detailed Coverage

Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) has started the new fiscal year with strong financial performance. For the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, the company recorded a net profit of ₹851.11 crore, a 35.05% increase compared to ₹630.23 crore in the same period last year. Operational revenue for the quarter also grew by 26.55% to reach ₹3,717.17 crore.

Record Lending and Asset Quality

The primary driver of this performance was a significant expansion in the company's loan book, which grew 28.8% to reach ₹1.73 lakh crore. During the quarter, the company approved loans worth ₹65,485 crore, a 91% rise compared to the previous year. Loan disbursements also hit a record high of ₹16,377 crore, marking a 28% year-on-year increase. These figures highlight the company's aggressive focus on funding urban infrastructure projects across India.

Beyond volume growth, the company managed to improve its profitability by reducing its blended cost of borrowing to 6.95% from 7.17% in the previous quarter. Furthermore, HUDCO strengthened its balance sheet by reducing risk. Gross non-performing assets (NPAs), which represent loans that are not being repaid as scheduled, fell to 0.96% from 1.34% a year earlier. The net NPA ratio reached 0.048%, which remains among the lowest in the sector.

Sector Context and Investor Focus

HUDCO operates as a specialized government-owned financial institution that focuses on housing and urban infrastructure. Its performance is closely tied to government infrastructure spending and the demand for long-term project financing. Because the company relies on borrowing funds to lend to infrastructure projects, changes in interest rates can directly impact its profit margins. By successfully reducing its cost of funds while increasing disbursements, the company has managed to maintain healthy spreads.

Investors may monitor the sustainability of these record loan sanctions in coming quarters, as infrastructure project cycles can be lengthy and are subject to execution delays. While asset quality currently appears strong, the ability to maintain these low NPA levels will be a key factor for the company as its loan book continues to grow. Management has credited this performance to a diversified portfolio and a focus on infrastructure, and the next important updates will include project commissioning progress and any shifts in the interest rate environment that could affect borrowing costs.
