Fibe Launches UPI Services As Fintech Preps For IPO

Fibe (Social Worth Technologies) has rolled out its UPI services following NPCI approval, allowing users to transact via bank accounts and credit lines. This strategic expansion into payments aims to deepen customer engagement as the company prepares for its upcoming ₹750 crore IPO.

Pune-based fintech company Fibe, formerly known as Social Worth Technologies, has officially entered the payments landscape. The company has secured approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP), enabling its users to process Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions directly through the Fibe application. This integration allows users to conduct payments using their bank accounts, RuPay credit cards, and pre-sanctioned credit lines.

This shift represents a strategic pivot for a company traditionally focused on personal lending. By embedding payment capabilities, Fibe aims to transition from a periodic credit provider to a daily-use financial platform. The focus on integrating credit lines—often referred to as 'credit on UPI'—aligns with the company’s core business model of providing short-term financing, potentially increasing the frequency of customer interaction with its app.

The launch comes at a critical juncture for the firm, which is currently preparing for an initial public offering. On September 15, 2026, the company received final observations from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for its proposed public issue. The IPO is structured to include a fresh issuance of shares worth up to ₹750 crore, alongside an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of over 4 crore equity shares by existing investors.

Fibe has shown significant growth in its lending operations. For the financial year 2026, the company reported assets under management (AUM) of ₹8,603 crore and a net profit of ₹257 crore. However, the decision to enter the crowded payments space introduces fresh challenges. The digital payments market in India is currently dominated by entrenched incumbents such as PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm, which command massive user bases. Fibe will need to prove it can drive significant adoption among its existing borrower base to capture a meaningful share of daily transactions.

Investors tracking the company should look beyond the technology rollout. Because the company’s primary revenue driver remains lending, it faces inherent risks, including the credit quality of its loan book and potential defaults in its unsecured loan portfolio. While the integration of payments may improve customer retention, it also subjects the company to the intense competitive and regulatory pressures typical of the payments sector, including shifts in Merchant Discount Rates and industry-wide compliance costs. The primary monitorable moving forward will be how successfully the company converts its lending customers into active UPI users as it approaches the launch of its public issue.
