Faster Access to Provident Funds via UPI
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to launch a major improvement for its members by allowing provident fund withdrawals directly into bank accounts using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). This new system has passed successful tests, according to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and aims to significantly speed up service and make it easier for members to get their saved money. The UPI method is expected to offer a quicker and more convenient alternative to older withdrawal processes.
Improving Financial Flexibility for Members
EPF withdrawals can currently take some time. While an automatic settlement process already helps with electronic claims within three days for up to Rs 1 lakh, the new UPI system is expected to make funds available even faster. This follows an increase in the auto-settlement limit to Rs 5 lakh, which supports urgent needs like medical care, education, weddings, or buying a home. The UPI system should give members more options to use their funds promptly once they arrive in their bank accounts.
Enhanced Digital Support with WhatsApp
In addition to UPI withdrawals, EPFO is expanding its digital support through an improved WhatsApp service. This platform is designed to better serve members and improve communication, especially for issues like Aadhaar verification and setting up Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The service will provide automated, 24/7 support in various regional languages, making it easier for all members to access assistance.
