CSB Bank Q2 Profit Grows 14% to ₹182 Crore

CSB Bank reported a 14% rise in net profit to ₹182.72 crore for the second quarter of fiscal 2027. The lender benefited from a 20% increase in interest income and lower loan-loss provisions. Strong growth in advances and deposits, alongside better asset quality, defined the quarter for the private sector lender.

CSB Bank has reported a standalone net profit of ₹182.72 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. This marks a 14% growth compared to the ₹160.33 crore profit the bank posted in the same period last year. The performance was largely driven by a robust increase in income generated from interest.

Income and Business Growth

The bank’s core business activity, represented by its net interest income, jumped by 20.4% to reach ₹509.93 crore. A year ago, this figure stood at ₹423.56 crore. This growth in interest income, which is the difference between the interest earned on loans and the interest paid on deposits, helped support the overall bottom line. The bank also saw significant expansion in its balance sheet, with total advances rising by 22.1% to ₹42,383 crore. On the liability side, deposits grew by 18.25% to reach ₹46,889 crore.

Asset Quality and Provisions

A notable highlight for the quarter was the reduction in the money the bank sets aside for potential loan losses. Provisions for the quarter were slashed by 52.7%, coming down to ₹30 crore from the ₹63.65 crore reported in the second quarter of the previous fiscal year. Such a sharp reduction often signals confidence in the quality of the loan book or improved recovery from earlier bad loans.

Asset quality metrics also showed improvement. Gross non-performing assets, which measure the total value of bad loans, declined to 1.58% of total advances. Similarly, net non-performing assets dropped to 0.33%, showing a cleaner loan portfolio compared to the 0.52% reported in the same quarter last year. The net interest margin, which indicates profitability on interest-earning assets, remained steady at 3.81%.

Strategic Outlook

Management, led by MD and CEO Pralay Mondal, is currently executing the 'SBS2030' plan, a strategy aimed at transforming the bank into a mid-sized institution. The bank is focusing on scaling its key business segments to maintain this momentum for the rest of the fiscal year. Investors will likely track whether the bank can maintain this pace of advance growth and keep asset quality stable as it scales its operations.
