AI Cyber Threats Intensify for Indian Banks

Indian banks must urgently upgrade their technology infrastructure to fend off sophisticated cyber threats driven by artificial intelligence. Praveen Kumar, MD & CEO of Barclays Global Service Centre India, warned that advanced AI models like Anthropic's Mythos can exploit existing weaknesses in banking systems.

Outdated Systems: Prime Target for AI Attacks

Kumar noted the prevalence of legacy infrastructure, outdated coding, and multiple software versions within many Indian banks. These aging architectures create significant vulnerabilities that advanced AI tools can easily leverage for attacks. He highlighted the challenge of building a consistent, robust tech foundation for bank safety.

AI Defense: The Only Way to Counter AI Attacks

Kumar explained that traditional defense mechanisms are insufficient against AI-driven assaults. "If AI is kind of launching an attack on your enterprise, you've got to have AI insight to counter that," he stated. This means adopting AI-led defenses to match the offensive power of these threats and secure operations.
