Bank of India has classified a Rs 575.40 crore loan account of Future Enterprises Ltd as fraud in a regulatory filing. The bank confirmed that it has already fully provided for this exposure, meaning there will be no new impact on its financial earnings. Future Enterprises has been undergoing insolvency proceedings under the NCLT since FY23.
Bank of India has officially designated the credit exposure to Future Enterprises Ltd as a fraud account, according to a regulatory filing released on October 12, 2026. The move follows a detailed internal assessment by the lender regarding the outstanding balance of Rs 575.40 crore.
Under Reserve Bank of India guidelines, banks are required to classify accounts as fraud if there is evidence of misappropriation of funds, criminal breach of trust, or accounting irregularities. This formal classification serves as a governance update, ensuring transparency regarding the quality of the bank's loan book.
Importantly, this development does not create a fresh burden on Bank of India’s balance sheet. The lender has confirmed that it has already made full 100% provisions for the entire Rs 575.40 crore exposure. Because this amount was already accounted for as a non-performing asset in earlier periods, the current classification does not reduce the bank’s existing profits or margins.
The classification comes while Future Enterprises is already deep into the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process. The company has been under the supervision of the National Company Law Tribunal since fiscal year 2023. As the Future Group conglomerate continues to face the consequences of failed restructuring efforts and significant financial distress, the recovery of dues remains a complex process for all involved creditors.
For investors and market participants, this event highlights the severe governance and liquidity challenges that have plagued Future Group entities. With the company already under insolvency, the fraud tag serves as an administrative and regulatory step rather than a change in the company's immediate operational or financial status. The key monitorable for stakeholders remains the ongoing court-led insolvency proceedings, which will ultimately determine the distribution of any remaining assets among creditors.
