Bandhan Bank to Appoint TransUnion’s Amol Joshi as CFO in November

Bandhan Bank has selected Amol Joshi, currently the CFO of TransUnion CIBIL, to lead its finance department starting this November. This leadership change occurs as the lender navigates a difficult period, following a reduction in its Return on Assets guidance for the fiscal year. Investors will be monitoring how the new finance head manages the bank's transition away from its traditional microfinance-heavy business model amid margin pressures.

Bandhan Bank is set for a change in its top finance leadership. Amol Joshi, currently the finance chief at credit information firm TransUnion CIBIL, is expected to join the bank in November 2026. This appointment follows the upcoming departure of the current CFO, Rajeev Mantri, who is leaving the organization on September 25, 2026, to join Axis Bank.

To ensure continuity, the bank has appointed Vinay Jain as the interim CFO. He will manage the bank’s financial operations from September 26, 2026, until March 31, 2027, bridging the gap before Joshi formally takes over the permanent role.

Financial Context and Investor Concerns

This management reshuffle comes at a sensitive time for the Kolkata-based lender. While Bandhan Bank reported a 35 percent year-on-year increase in profit to ₹502 crore in the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, the market sentiment has remained cautious. The primary concern among investors has been the bank’s lowered forecast for its Return on Assets, or RoA, which is a key metric that measures how much profit a bank generates relative to its assets. The bank has revised this guidance downward to a range of 1.2 to 1.4 percent for the fiscal year.

Strategic Challenges and Margin Pressure

The incoming finance chief will face immediate challenges as the bank works to reduce its reliance on microfinance loans. For years, microfinance has been the core business, but diversifying into other types of lending is essential for long-term stability. This strategy is currently under pressure from rising deposit costs, which are squeezing profit margins across the banking sector. The bank is also facing challenges related to higher technology investments and wage costs, which are impacting overall spending.

Transition Dynamics

The transition of finance heads is a critical moment for the organization. Notably, Rajeev Mantri, who is exiting the role, had also joined the bank from TransUnion CIBIL back in 2021, marking a continued trend of executive movement between the two institutions. Going forward, investors will be monitoring how the new leadership team steers the bank through these margin pressures and whether they can successfully lower the risk profile of the loan book without sacrificing growth. The success of this strategic shift will largely depend on the ability to balance portfolio diversification while keeping deposit expenses in check.
