Bajaj Finserv shares moved higher after the company reported a 25% year-on-year rise in Q2 FY27 consolidated profit to ₹5,952 crore. While the lending business delivered strong results, some analysts have tempered their price targets due to potential regulatory changes in insurance commissions and market volatility.
Bajaj Finserv shares gained ground on November 4, 2026, following the release of the company's financial results for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. The group reported a consolidated profit after tax of ₹5,952 crore, representing a 25% growth compared to the same period last year. Total income for the quarter also saw a healthy increase of 17%, reaching ₹43,416 crore.
Lending Business Leads Growth
The primary engine for the group's performance remained its lending subsidiary, Bajaj Finance. The company reported a 29% surge in profit to ₹6,367 crore, alongside a 26% growth in its total assets under management. For investors, this highlights the continued resilience of the core lending business, which remains the largest contributor to the group’s overall earnings. This strong performance in the lending segment was the main factor that bolstered investor confidence during the trading session.
Mixed Performance in Insurance
While the lending business saw robust growth, the performance of the group’s insurance subsidiaries was mixed. Bajaj Life Insurance reported strong momentum, with the value of new business jumping 40% and margins expanding by 460 basis points to reach 21.7%.
However, the general insurance arm faced significant headwinds. Profit for the general insurance business declined by 19% to ₹420 crore. This drop was largely attributed to a high claims ratio of 83.7%. A higher claims ratio means the company paid out a larger portion of premiums as claims, often due to an increase in motor insurance payouts or a less profitable mix of insurance policies. This disparity in the insurance segments underscores the operational challenges inherent in the general insurance business.
Regulatory Outlook and Analyst Sentiment
Despite the positive earnings surprise, some analysts have revised their price targets downward. This cautious stance is primarily linked to external factors rather than the company’s recent operational performance. A key area of concern is a consultation paper from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) regarding the distribution economics of insurance products.
If the proposed rules regarding commission structures are implemented, they could tighten the economics of distributing insurance, potentially impacting revenue for both distributors and insurance companies. Analysts also pointed to the softening equity markets as a risk, as significant portions of insurance portfolios are invested in the stock market. Any sustained market volatility could lead to lower investment gains, creating uncertainty in future earnings projections. Investors will likely track the final regulatory outcome regarding insurance commissions and whether the general insurance claims ratio stabilizes in the coming quarters.
