BSE, Apollo Hospitals Report Profit Growth; Biocon, Zydus Earnings Dip

BSE and Apollo Hospitals saw profit gains in Q2 FY27, while Biocon and Zydus Lifesciences faced earnings pressure. Higher trading volumes and healthcare demand supported growth, whereas pharma companies struggled with rising costs and supply chain delays.

Indian markets saw a clear divide in corporate performance for the second quarter ending September 2026. While service-oriented sectors like finance and healthcare showed strength, large pharmaceutical companies faced significant pressure, leading to lower profits for some key industry players.

BSE and Apollo Hospitals Show Growth

Exchange operator BSE reported a strong quarter, with its consolidated net profit rising 45% compared to the same period last year, reaching ₹809.15 crore. This growth was largely driven by sustained high activity in Indian capital markets. Similarly, Apollo Hospitals posted a 32% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit, which stood at ₹630 crore. The healthcare provider’s revenue grew 23% to ₹7,615 crore, supported by consistent patient footfalls across its hospitals and a healthy demand for medical services.

Pharma Sector Faces Operational Hurdles

In contrast, the pharmaceutical sector struggled with bottom-line pressure. Biocon reported a sharp decline in net profit, which fell between 51% and 57% year-on-year, landing in the ₹41 crore to ₹57 crore range. The company’s earnings were affected by higher expenses and approximately $20 million in revenue that was delayed due to logistical and geopolitical challenges.

Zydus Lifesciences also saw its net profit drop by 26.6% to ₹925.5 crore. Despite revenue growth, the company's operating margin, which reflects profit before interest and taxes, contracted to 20%. This decline highlights the impact of rising raw material costs and increased spending on regulatory compliance, which are currently squeezing profits across the drug manufacturing industry.

What This Means for Investors

These results show how different sectors are managing current economic conditions. The positive performance of BSE and Apollo Hospitals suggests that businesses linked to domestic consumption and financial market activity are maintaining steady growth. On the other hand, the pharma sector is dealing with global supply chain complexities, which are making it harder for companies to maintain historical profit levels.

Investors may monitor whether pharma companies can resolve these logistical issues and improve their margins in the second half of the fiscal year. Management teams at both Biocon and Zydus have indicated that they expect better performance in the coming months, but recovery will depend on stable supply chains and effective control over input costs.
