Angel One will roll out US stock trading for customers within 45 days and a corporate bond platform in two weeks. These additions aim to diversify revenue beyond standard brokerage services and build a comprehensive wealth management app, competing directly with major discount brokers like Groww and Zerodha.
Angel One is expanding its reach into new financial products, aiming to offer US stock trading to its customer base within the next 45 days. Additionally, the brokerage firm plans to introduce a corporate bond platform in the coming two weeks. These steps are part of a broader strategy to transform from a traditional trading platform into a comprehensive wealth management service provider.
The company will utilize its license from the International Financial Services Centre at GIFT City to facilitate international equity investments. By offering access to global markets, Angel One intends to help its clients diversify their portfolios outside of India. This shift comes as competition among Indian discount brokers intensifies. Firms like Zerodha and Groww have also been aggressively adding similar financial products to their apps to capture a larger share of the customer's wallet.
For investors, this shift is significant as it highlights the company's attempt to reduce its reliance on domestic equity and derivatives trading commissions, which can be volatile depending on market conditions. The brokerage reported that its wealth management division now holds assets under management of ₹16,000 crore, showing a 160 percent year-on-year increase. Its asset management arm has also reported a 40 percent growth rate.
However, moving into new product categories brings specific business challenges. The discount brokerage sector in India faces intense competition and regulatory scrutiny. As companies move toward broader service models, the cost of acquiring and retaining customers can rise. Furthermore, operating bond and international trading platforms requires high levels of regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. The success of this expansion will depend on user adoption and the company's ability to maintain profit margins in these newer business segments, which may offer different return profiles compared to core brokerage.
The key monitorable for the business is whether these new product lines can effectively boost revenue and reduce the company’s dependency on transaction-based trading volume, which often fluctuates with market trends.
