Airtel Money Reports $830 Million Revenue, Stock Trails IPO Price

Airtel Money posted its maiden financial results with a 25.1% revenue rise to $830 million for the first half of the fiscal year. Despite the growth, shares are currently trading below the 196 pence IPO debut price. Investors are watching how the company maintains its operational momentum and manages its post-listing valuation.

Airtel Money has released its first set of financial results following its recent listing on the London Stock Exchange, revealing strong growth in its digital wallet business. For the six-month period ending in September, the company reported revenue of $830 million, a 25.1% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Profit after tax also saw an improvement, rising to $228 million from $188 million a year earlier.

Operational Growth and User Expansion

The company’s performance highlights the increasing adoption of its financial services across its African operational footprint. Airtel Money expanded its active user base by 18.7%, reaching 56.7 million customers. This growth has deepened the company's reach within the broader Airtel Africa telecommunications network, with mobile money penetration climbing to 42.9%, an increase of 3.2 percentage points. Additionally, the average monthly transaction value per user rose by 14.9%, reaching $397, which indicates that existing customers are increasing their usage of the platform's financial services.

Market Response and Investor Context

Despite the positive operational results, investor sentiment has remained cautious since the company’s market debut on October 9. The stock closed at 179 pence on Friday, trailing behind the 196 pence price level set at the time of its initial public offering. To address shareholder value, management has announced an interim dividend of 6.4 cents per share. Chief Executive Ian Basil Ferrao has reaffirmed the company's full-year guidance, emphasizing that the listing serves as a validation of the long-term business model. The key monitorable for investors will be whether the company can continue to sustain this double-digit revenue growth while navigating the challenges of its new status as a publicly listed entity, especially as the market evaluates its valuation in the coming quarters.
