Airtel Money Plans London IPO in 2026 as Q1 Profit Jumps

Bharti Airtel’s fintech arm, Airtel Money, plans a London stock market debut in the second half of 2026. This move aims to unlock value as the parent company reports strong Q1 FY27 growth, with net profit rising 37.3% to ₹8,167 crore.

Bharti Airtel's mobile money platform, Airtel Money, has confirmed plans for an initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange, targeting a listing in the second half of 2026. The company intends to use this move to unlock the long-term value of its fintech business and tap into a broader pool of international investors.

The announcement follows a robust start to the 2027 financial year for parent company Bharti Airtel. In the first quarter, the company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹8,167 crore, representing a 37.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter also rose by 18.4% to reach ₹58,539 crore.

Airtel Money has expanded its footprint significantly, now processing an annual transaction value exceeding $245 billion. The platform currently serves 56.5 million users, which underscores the high demand for digital payment services across the company's regions. A key driver for the parent company's financial success has been the steady improvement in the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), which climbed to ₹264, reflecting a successful shift toward higher-value service plans.

Challenges and Market Factors

While the fintech division shows growth, investors may watch several operational and external challenges. The African fintech landscape is highly competitive, featuring major rivals such as M-Pesa and MTN MoMo. Success in this market depends on the company's ability to retain and grow its user base against these incumbents.

Furthermore, the planned IPO remains subject to standard regulatory approvals and the stability of global capital markets. The company has previously noted that macro factors, such as energy price inflation and rising logistics costs, can impact near-term profit margins. These factors continue to influence operational expenses and will be critical to monitor.

Bharti Airtel has taken steps to strengthen its balance sheet, reporting an improved consolidated net debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 1.17 as of June 30, 2026. Moving forward, the key focus for market participants will be how the company manages competitive pressures and sustains its financial momentum in the lead-up to the planned listing.
