Tata Motors and THINK Gas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) refueling infrastructure for long-haul and heavy-duty trucks across India.
The partnership is designed to enhance the readiness of the refueling ecosystem, raise awareness about the quality of LNG fuel, and encourage greater use of LNG-powered commercial vehicles. This initiative is crucial for accelerating India's transition towards more decarbonized and environmentally friendly freight transport.
Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head - Trucks at Tata Motors, stated that LNG offers a viable solution for heavy trucking, and this partnership will help ensure reliable refueling access, enabling fleet operators to confidently adopt LNG. Somil Garg, Senior Vice President and Business Head (LNG Fuel) at THINK Gas, mentioned that collaborating with Tata Motors, a leader in alternative fuels, is strategic for their expansion.
Under the agreement, Tata Motors will work with THINK Gas to identify key freight corridors and logistics clusters for infrastructure development. THINK Gas will focus on maintaining high standards of fuel quality and supply reliability. Tata Motors customers will also receive exclusive benefits, including preferential pricing.
Impact This partnership is expected to significantly advance the adoption of LNG as a clean fuel for commercial transport in India. It addresses critical infrastructure gaps and provides confidence to fleet operators, potentially leading to substantial emission reductions and operational efficiencies. Impact Rating: 8/10
