Ola Electric has announced the start of deliveries for its S1 Pro+ (5.2kWh) electric scooter, which is the first product to feature the company's in-house developed and manufactured 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack. This indigenously produced battery technology is designed to offer customers improved range, better performance, and enhanced safety features. A spokesperson for Ola Electric stated that this move signifies a major step towards energy independence, with products now built using technology designed and made in India.
Crucially, Ola Electric claims to be the first company in India to fully control both the battery pack and cell manufacturing process in-house. This achievement follows the company securing Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certification for its 4680 Bharat Cell battery packs in a 5.2 kWh configuration, meeting the latest AIS-156 Amendment 4 standards.
The S1 Pro+ (5.2kWh) is equipped with a 13 kW motor, accelerating from 0 to 40 kmph in 2.1 seconds. It offers an ARAI-certified range of 320 km (IDC with DIY mode) and features four riding modes: Hyper, Sports, Normal, and Eco. For safety, it includes dual ABS and disc brakes front and rear.
Impact: This development is significant for Ola Electric as it reduces reliance on external battery suppliers, potentially leading to cost efficiencies and better control over the supply chain. It also strengthens their position in the competitive Indian EV market and aligns with India's 'Make in India' initiative, potentially boosting investor confidence in the company's technological capabilities and long-term strategy. This could lead to a positive impact on the company's future valuation and market share. The rating for the direct impact on the Indian stock market is 7/10, given the growing EV sector's influence.
Difficult Terms: 4680 Bharat Cell: Refers to a specific cylindrical battery cell format (designated by its dimensions 46mm diameter and 80mm length) developed and manufactured by Ola Electric for their electric vehicles. Indigenously manufactured: Means manufactured within the country using local resources and technology. ARAI certification: Automotive Research Association of India certification, a mandatory certification for vehicles and components sold in India, ensuring they meet safety and emission standards. AIS-156 Amendment 4: A specific amendment to India's automotive industry standards concerning the safety of electric vehicle batteries. IDC (Indian Driving Cycle): A standardized test procedure used in India to measure the range and efficiency of electric vehicles. Dual ABS: Anti-lock Braking System that operates on both front and rear wheels, preventing them from locking up during heavy braking.
